A reminder of what NICE is and what NICE wants to achieve currently with some little help from Highland Council in Inverness (although our Local officers are doing what they can to help).
NICE (Nairn Improvement Community Enterprise) was formed to facilitate the regeneration of Nairn Town and Rural Hinterlands. NICE directors have agreed to serve without any payment for their voluntary services.
NICE has developed a Vision for Nairn (now the Local Place Plan (LPP)) that seeks to find ways of achieving Nairn and Nairnshires aims and freeing up the value locked in local property and assets including the assets of the Nairn Common Good Fund. NICE wants Nairn to follow the example set by the Inverness Common Good Fund, that is: • not to sell off our assets, but to use them to generate a healthy annual income, • to maximise the financial return to the area • generate income revenue as a legacy for future generations.
We can only do this with the support of the Highland Council and in particular our 4 Nairn Local Elected members who are, as Common Good Trustees, the “stewards of our Nairn Common Good assets”.
NICE is currently running three local projects: All projects have progressed and remain open for views, comments, and support. In recent years, Nairn has relied heavily on volunteers to drive activity, but with limited achievement. With these three projects and continued volunteer support, Nairn is now well placed to deliver long-term success.
